Does Hers Weight Loss Work? Everything You Need to Know

With so many weight loss programmes now available, what sets Hers Weight Loss apart from the rest? Why does Hers Weight Loss U.K. work better than our competitors?

In a word: personalisation.

How does Hers Weight Loss work if you live in the United Kingdom? Hers is a telemedicine platform. When you sign up for our weight loss programme, you get ongoing access to licensed U.K. healthcare providers who can recommend and prescribe treatment options to meet your unique needs and goals. This may include GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist) weight loss injections or pills that support weight management.

Let’s look at the details with our in-house obesity expert, Craig Primack, MD. Dr. Primack is an obesity medicine specialist and Senior Vice President of Weight Loss at Hims & Hers.

In this article, we’ll discuss how Hers Weight Loss works, which medications we offer, and what to expect from your first month with Hers.

About Hers Weight Loss U.K.

Hers is committed to making personal care for weight management more accessible — including to those living in the United Kingdom.

”Everyone loses weight differently, based on your genetics,” Dr Primack says. ”So, what works for one person may not work for you. Personalising your treatment is the best way to ensure success.”

Hers Weight Loss offers a comprehensive programme that includes the four pillars of obesity medicine:

  • Healthy eating

  • Physical activity

  • Education and overcoming obstacles

  • Weight loss medicines

”Targeting all four aspects of weight loss at the same time helps patients achieve lasting results,” Dr. Primack adds.

Through the Hers platform, you’ll receive guidance on daily protein intake, activity goals, smart eating strategies, and sleep habits — all tailored to help you build lasting routines.

You can also speak with a U.K.-licensed medical provider to determine which treatment options may be appropriate for you.

How Much Weight Can You Lose With Hers U.K.?

Weight loss results can vary depending on many factors — the medication prescribed, how your body responds, and how committed you are to following the programme.

”Without drastic diet changes, people can safely lose two pounds per week,” Dr. Primack says.

Dr. Primack estimates that oral medications can help you lose roughly five to eight percent of your total body weight, while GLP-1 injections can help you lose an average of 15 to 22 percent.

Consistent lifestyle changes — like eating a healthy diet, moving regularly, and prioritising sleep — can further support your progress.

If your progress ever feels slower than expected, exploring why you might not be losing weight can help you understand common reasons behind plateaus.

Hers Weight Loss Medications Available in the U.K.

Currently, Hers U.K. offers three weight loss medications:

Here’s what to know about each medicine.

Wegovy® (Semaglutide)

Wegovy®, a weekly semaglutide injection, is a GLP-1 agonist medication. It works by mimicking glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone that occurs naturally in the body.

”GLP-1 is a hormone that all of us already have,” explains Dr. Primack. ”Its main function as a weight loss drug is to cross the blood-brain barrier to decrease appetite at the hypothalamus (appetite centre), to decrease the rate of stomach emptying, and to stimulate the pancreas to bring blood sugar down.”

GLP-1 injections help you feel fuller for longer. This decreases your appetite and cravings, which makes it easier to eat less. As Dr. Primack points out, GLP-1 drugs also help stabilise blood sugar levels.

Semaglutide is also available under the brand name Ozempic®. But in the U.K., Ozempic® is only licensed for treating type 2 diabetes — not for weight loss — and clinicians are discouraged from prescribing it for weight management.

Clinical studies show that semaglutide can help people lose an average of roughly 15 percent of their starting body weight over 68 weeks.

If you’re interested in GLP-1 medicines specifically, our guide on how to get Wegovy in the U.K. walks through eligibility, access, and what to expect.

Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide)

Another popular weight loss injection is Mounjaro®, which contains tirzepatide.

Like semaglutide, tirzepatide mimics GLP-1 — but it also mimics another hormone, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).

In 2024, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorised Mounjaro® for treating obesity in the U.K. Tirzepatide is also the active ingredient in Zepbound®, which is available in the United States but isn’t licensed in the U.K. yet.

Research shows that tirzepatide can help people lose a significant amount of weight. In a randomised clinical trial, participants were given tirzepatide or a placebo for 72 weeks. Those given tirzepatide lost an average of 15 percent of their starting body weight — some lost even more.

If you want a clearer picture of what progress can look like over time, our Mounjaro weight loss by week guide breaks down typical results from the early weeks onward.

Orlistat

For those who aren’t keen on injections, Hers offers orlistat.

Orlistat, sometimes sold under the brand name Xenical®, is an oral weight loss tablet. It works by partially blocking the absorption of fat from the food you eat.

This undigested fat passes through the body rather than being stored. Orlistat may be suitable for people who prefer non-hormonal treatment options or have specific medical considerations.

Research shows that orlistat, when combined with healthy lifestyle changes, can lower body weight, BMI (body mass index), cholesterol levels, and even waist circumference.

What to Expect in Your First Month With Hers Weight Loss

The first month on Hers Weight Loss sets the foundation for success. You might start losing your first few kilos — but more importantly, you’ll be laying the groundwork for your weight loss journey.

Here’s a general timeline of what you might experience.

Week 1: Starting Weight Loss Medicine

  • You’ll likely begin on a low dose of weight loss medicine to minimise side effects.

  • You might feel less hungry or more in control of food cravings.

  • Mild side effects like nausea are common the first week but often temporary.

Weeks 2 and 3: Building Healthy Habits

  • You’ll start adding small changes — like eating protein with every meal, moving more, or improving sleep.

  • Your appetite may continue to decline as your body adjusts to the medication.

Week 4: Noticing Victories

  • Even if your weight hasn’t changed much, you might feel more energised or see changes in how your clothes fit.

  • Many report reduced emotional eating or fewer food cravings by the fourth week.

These early changes, while sometimes subtle, are telltale signs that your body is responding to the medicine.

”I feel great! My clothes fit better, I look better, my neighbours, family, and friends are shocked by how [much] weight I lost. I’ve also entered into a new relationship! That was unheard-of a year ago! I’m happier, I have more energy, I’ve lost the ’belly fat,’ and I stand by [Hers Weight Loss medication kits] 100 percent.

”I will continue to take this product, work with my virtual medical professional for the proper dosage, and continue to keep my diet and exercise on track. I want to come down about 10 more pounds and then maintain by toning and staying fit. I never want to go back to where I was a year ago. I tried so many other ’diet’ pills and ’diet’ programs, and nothing worked. This is the first treatment that’s really worked and I’m so happy!” —Mary, 54

”Before I had kids, I was 100 pounds soaking wet. After babies, I was fluctuating between 165 and 170 pounds. I was pretty self-conscious and also concerned about my health as I got older. I come from a family where obesity is commonplace, which often comes with heart attacks, diabetes, and other concerns. I always eat a healthy and balanced diet, but the pounds just never came off. I tried everything from dieting to working out — even medication — but the pounds weren’t going anywhere.

”Since starting [my Hers Weight Loss kit], I’ve lost about 25 pounds and am starting to feel like myself again. I can’t express how amazing this program is. It works, it doesn’t make you sick and doesn’t cause bathroom issues like other diet pills. My messages always get a timely response. If you’re looking for the sign to try it, this is it. Hers Weight Loss has turned my whole life around.” —Carolyn, 29
